Stop Making Excuses

You need to go after what you want.  Live the life you want and deserve.  Don’t be too scared to take the steps to make that change.

First you need to be completely honest with yourself and admit that you truly do make excuses.

What are you really saying?

Your excuse: I don’t have the time
What you’re really saying: I am not willing to create the time needed to change my future.

Your excuse: I work outside of the home.
What you’re really saying: I am exhausted and want to continue to live my life like this forever and ever.  I am too scared to make a change or step out of my comfort zone. I want to come home from work, make dinner, watch tv, go to bed and do it all again the next day even though I hate my job.

Your excuse: My business isn’t working.
What you’re really saying:  I am not following the system (trainings) provided to me.  I am not taking action.

Your excuse: I am not getting results /  My network is too small to help me succeed.
What you’re really saying:  I am not talking to people daily.  I am not taking the right actions to create results.  I am scared to pick up the phone.

Your excuse: I have been working so hard and nothing is happening.
What you’re really saying: I am not truly following the system.  I don’t have faith/belief in myself.  I am unsure of myself and that this really can work.

Your excuse: Why is everyone moving up/getting promoted and I stay where I am at.
What you’re really saying: I am comparing myself to others so I don’t have to face my own issues.

Your excuse: I have children.
What you’re really saying: I am hiding behind the fact that I am a parent and am scared that if I put in more time into my business that I’ll neglect my kids.  I am not treating this like a business.  It is not on the top of my priority list.

First off,  STOP SAYING “I”.  Take yourself out of the equation.  What you do needs to be about others and helping them, so come from the heart and not the mind.

Don’t make time for excuses!!!!!!

Why to use LinkedIn

Why use LinkenIn??

LinkedIn is best compared to an online resume. People will be able to check out the work you’ve done, where you are now, see your connections and your recommendations from others.

Where to start?

After signing up at www.LinkedIn.com, the first and one of the most important things you want to do is complete your profile. If you don't have a complete profile, you're not going to get anywhere with it so be sure to fill it out completely.

Check out my profile at www.LinkedIn.com/in/LauraGelnett

What’s Next?

Now that your profile is created you need to add contacts to your profile. To start you can search for people you know like friends, family, and co-workers. Connections will help you to meet other people which will ultimately introduce you to people that will help you grow your business or they'll help you possible prospects.

After you have added all the contacts you have it's time to join groups so you can find more people to add. You'll want to join groups that are related to your business or the type of work you do for a living. You'll want to communicate with people and network with them before you ask them to be a contact.

The last thing you need to do is ask for recommendations, but this can't happen until you add contacts. You'll want to start with people you've worked with or currently work with. By having recommendations, people who are looking at your profile will get to more insight into who you are and what type of work ethics you have.

LinkedIn is a very good social networking site and it's one you should use no matter if you run a business and you're looking for new customers or clients or if you have a job and you're looking for a new one. You'll want to visit your LinkedIn profile daily, kind of like we do out Facebook pages, and make posts both on your profile page and the groups you're a part of. People will begin to trust you and they'll want connect with you and see how you can help them with their needs.

Two Mistakes People Are Making on Their Facebook Profile

The thing about social networking sites like Facebook is that they can either be A) a total waste of time, or B) a profitable asset for your business and your social list building. I prefer B, don’t you? So I am going to show you some mistakes that most people do on Facebook.

#1- Using your wall/profile as a spam board

STOP posting your company link every 10 seconds on your status update. While you might get a few hits from your new friends, the majority of your friends/followers will either unsubscribe to you or unfriend you if you’re constantly shoving your opportunity down their throat ;)

Typically posting a testimonial about your business/product or a motivational story is all you need. Don’t post your link or mention your company name. Have folks message you for details. That’s it. Do this about 2-3 times a week; a simple yet effective way of generating prospects.

Remember the 80/20 rule when posting; 80% valuable information and 20% promotion.

#2- Not linking your profile work info up to your personal fan page

If you work for yourself and have your own Facebook Fan Page (or you’re an employee and your employer has a fan page), I highly recommend that you change this Employer field to your Fan Page.

I’ve seen hundreds and hundreds of personal Facebook profiles where the user is clearly unaware that they are missing out on an opportunity to promote their Fan Page right at the top of their profiles. We have no idea how many people might be browsing our personal profiles, whether they are friends or not, and you may as well take the opportunity to promote your fan page.

The process is straightforward:

  1. Go to Your Profile >If You Have the New Timeline, Click the About button on the left > then go to the Work and Education section> Click Edit in the Right-hand corner of that section
  2. Begin typing the name of your fan page in the Employer field.
  3. If you see your fan page in the dropdown menu, select it.
  4. Then fill out the remaining fields (Position, City/Town, Description and Time Period). If you also add in any business partners/colleagues, this will show on their profile too under the Employer section. They will need to approve your add first.
  5. Click Add Job.
  6. You can also add Project(s) to any position and add business partners/colleagues (again, this shows on their Employer section after they approve the add).

That is it! Simple!

Do You Have Messages in Your "Other" Facebook Inbox?

There is a tab under Facebook Messages that you may have never noticed. It filters out the messages that Facebook thinks are to be less-than-important messages.

Although it’s not a new feature, the “Other” inbox upsets some users who have only just discovered it and are reportedly missing important messages. I know I have missed inquiries from people who wanted more information on working from home. I responded back to them, but I hope my reply didn’t get put in their “other” messages inbox.

So are you missing out and not receiving your messages?

For a Fresh Start Follow Your Heart

Here are three truths I learned recently that have helped me to stay on track, get back on track or to start over when need be.

1. Follow Your Heart

Revisit what is fueling your passion. Ask yourself, "Is my love showing?", "Is my heart in what I am doing?", "Do I love what I do well enough to work through obstacles?" When your desire to succeed is strong, you will have the inner fortitude to keep going. If you are feeling frustration, it is quite difficult to display passion - and it is your passion that draws others to you.

To release your frustrations I suggest that you:

*Step away from your business for a moment. Take a deep breath and regroup.
*Remember WHY you are working in business and WHAT you are working for.
*Forget about yourself and focus on helping others.

2. Freshen Up!

With all the current woeful economic news, I have made a concerted effort to stay fresh. I've also made a deliberate decision to not let the dire news drain me of my energy or spirit. I have accepted the fact that I need to build more relationships to get the same results I desire. I am dedicated to keeping myself fresh and sharp. I have developed an immunity plan to protect my heart and passion, preserve my energy and deal effectively with the harsh realities around us. What will refresh you?

Below are a few tactics that help me to stay refreshed:
***Meet new people either online or in your local area. Attend with no particular agenda except to form a few new relationships and trust the universe to lead you to the right people.
***Read an inspiring book to keep your mind in the optimal place. Some suggestions are The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success: A Practical Guide to the Fulfillment of Your Dreams by Deepak Chopra
***Take time off - schedule a time to play. Go to the movies, see friends or do something for fun.

3. Start or Re-start

Get started now or start again! Determine what consistent actions you need to do each week so that at the end of the week you can feel your situation is improving. Improvement and self-growth are great gifts to give yourself. These are simple ways you can show yourself that you love what you do and are willing to invest in yourself.

Follow these three truths and you will give yourself a fresh start whenever you need it.

Facing Your Fears

Fears are something that can scare you away from doing something you’ve always dreamed of doing. You can set out to achieve a goal and then something may happen and your dream can go down the drain within minutes.

When this happens you have two options to consider. One is to let the dream go away and the other is to overcome the fear and set out again to achieve your goal. I found a quote that fits perfectly with the second option.

“Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgment that something else is more important than fear.”
James Neil Hollingworth

In my opinion James really had something when he said that quote. Some thing is more important than the fear.

Fear is a feeling and nothing more than that, so it’s likely after you think about what you’re going through and you decide what actions you can take to overcome it, you’ll be able to achieve your goals.

Mostly likely your fear is because you’re afraid of the outcome of a situation. For example if you’re afraid to talk with your friends and family about your business, why do you feel that way? Simply put, you’re afraid of the outcome. You have a fear of the word no and you’re afraid how you’re going to feel if they say “NO.”

You need to take “you” out of the picture because in this industry it is not about you; it is about them. (The person you’re talking to) So once you take “you” out of the equation things will start to fall into place.
